Features of plastic headlight lenses and their weak points
After car manufacturers switched to composite plastic lenses and abandoned quartz glass, the optics became lighter and more resistant to mechanical impact. Plastic glass is more resistant to small gravel, weighs less and is generally more convenient to use.
At the same time, such headlights also have weaknesses. The main one is the protective coating, which can deteriorate over time under the influence of ultraviolet rays, chemicals and temperature changes. This was the reason for the Volkswagen Golf GTI owner’s visit.

The condition of the Volkswagen Golf GTI headlight before polishing
A Volkswagen Golf GTI came to our car lighting service in Kyiv with a problem of a damaged protective layer on one of the headlight lenses. The varnish began to peel off, which immediately affected the appearance of the optics and the quality of the light.

At first glance, the problem may not seem critical, but operating a car with a headlight in this condition is undesirable. First, the light becomes less effective. Second, the glass remains unprotected and begins to actively deteriorate under the influence of ultraviolet rays and aggressive chemicals. And, of course, a headlight with chipped paint looks unaesthetic.

Choosing a solution: external headlight polishing
After inspection, the service specialists determined that the problem was located precisely on the outer surface of the glass. The inner part of the optics did not require intervention, so the optimal solution was to grind and polish the headlights from the outside.

Polishing process and protection with SunTek film
Service specialists performed step-by-step grinding and polishing of the outer part of the glass of both headlights. After completion of the work, the surface acquired a smooth, clean and transparent appearance.
To preserve the result for a long time, the optics were protected with SunTek anti-gravel polyurethane film, which:
- protects the glass from ultraviolet rays;
- reduces the risk of repeated surface damage;
- protects the headlights from sand and small stones.

Result: a renewed look and proper light
After polishing and film application, the Volkswagen Golf GTI headlights were completely transformed. The previously damaged glass became transparent again, and the optics regained their factory shine. The light became clearer, and the car's appearance became neat and well-groomed.
