Why it is important to regularly check headlight settings
Many car owners do not pay enough attention to headlights, believing that if the light is on, everything is working normally. However, car lighting specialists recommend periodically visiting services equipped with professional devices for calibrating headlights and adjusting light.
This is especially important after:
- replacing car lamps;
- removing and installing headlights;
- driving on cobblestones;
- hitting deep potholes at speed;
- any work on the front of the car.

Background: how the lights on a BMW e46 M3 went out of alignment
Our car lighting service previously carried out work on the front optics of a BMW 3-Series e46 M3. After this work, the headlights were adjusted and set on a stand in accordance with the standards. Subsequently, the car was operated for some time, after which it was sent for a complete repainting of the body. During the painting work, the car was completely disassembled, and after painting, it was reassembled in compliance with the geometry of the gaps. Such processes inevitably affect the position of the headlights. The car owner noticed this while driving at night — one of the headlights began to shine not on the road surface, but significantly to the right, illuminating the roadside.

Diagnostics and adjustment of headlights
During the inspection, it became apparent that the light beam of one headlight had shifted to the right and was outside the correct parameters. Service specialists performed headlight adjustment with a device, precisely setting the light-shadow boundary and the direction of the light beam.

Adjustment result according to standards
After completing the adjustment, the headlights of the BMW 3-Series e46 M3 were brought into compliance with the current DSTU and EEC standards. The light beam became correct, uniform and safe for oncoming traffic again. The adjustment restored the comfort of driving at night and ensured proper road illumination without blinding other road users.
