After getting into an accident and breaking a headlight, most car owners immediately start looking for options: a new headlight, a headlight from a scrap car, or repair of the damaged optics. When all the figures are collected and compared, it becomes obvious that, from a financial point of view, repairing a headlight at a specialised car lighting service is often the most rational solution.

The condition of a BMW e60 headlight after an accident
A BMW e60 headlight that was damaged in an accident was brought to our auto lighting workshop. The impact was on the rear of the optics, causing the headlight housing to be broken along with the glass. With this type of damage, restoration is possible if the main internal elements of the headlight are intact.

The optimal solution: using a donor housing
The most budget-friendly way to repair a BMW e60 lens headlight was to use donor parts from a similar halogen headlight. This approach allows you to keep the original light modules and electronics, replacing only the damaged housing.

Preparing the donor housing
The donor halogen headlight was unpacked and prepared for the transfer of light modules from the broken lensed headlight. Particular attention was paid to the compatibility of the elements and the correct placement of the internal components.

Assembly and leak test
After all the internal elements were carefully transferred to the donor housing, the headlight was assembled with a new sealed seam. After waiting for the sealant to cure, the service technicians performed a mandatory quality check of the assembly. Special attention was paid to testing for the absence of prerequisites for the appearance of internal condensation in order to ensure reliable and long-term operation of the restored optics.

Result
As a result, the BMW e60 headlight was completely restored without the need to purchase new expensive optics. This approach allowed for significant cost savings while preserving the standard functionality and appearance of the headlight.
Replacing a broken housing with donor parts is a practical and proven solution for restoring headlights after an accident.
