Why plastic headlights need polishing
Technical progress has changed the material used for car headlight glass. Instead of quartz glass, manufacturers have started using plastic composite materials. They are lighter, stronger and less fragile, but they also have a drawback — the protective coating wears out over time.
Under the influence of ultraviolet rays, temperature changes and road chemicals, the surface of the headlights becomes cloudy, cracks or partially loses its varnish. In such cases, a cosmetic headlight polishing procedure not only refreshes the appearance, but also improves the quality of road lighting.

The condition of the Mazda 6 MPS headlights before restoration
A Mazda 6 MPS with headlights that were starting to have problems with the plastic lenses came to our car lighting service in Kyiv. The factory protective coating had peeled off and cracked in places due to age and operating conditions. This exposed the lenses to aggressive external influences — ultraviolet radiation and active chemicals — which inevitably leads to clouding of the glass and loss of headlight efficiency over time.

The owner’s informed decision
The car owner realistically assessed the situation and decided not to wait until the headlight glass lost its transparency completely. The best solution was to restore the factory transparency of the headlight glass by polishing it — without dismantling the optics or complex interventions.

The polishing process and headlight protection with SunTek film
Our service specialists began the work by gradually sanding the headlight lenses using abrasives of various grit sizes. This allowed them to remove the remains of damaged varnish and minor defects and prepare the surface for final processing.
After that, polishing was performed, which restored the transparency and smooth surface of the plastic glass. The final stage was the application of SunTek polyurethane protective film, which:
- protects the headlights from ultraviolet rays;
- reduces the impact of chemicals and road dust;
- extends the service life of the polishing result.

Result: clean glass and a refreshed look
After all the work was completed, the Mazda 6 MPS headlights looked neat and fresh again. The glass became transparent, the optics were visually refreshed, and the light became clearer and more uniform.
