When the optics are in critical condition
All people have different attitudes towards the things that surround them. Some people regularly take care of their car and keep it in good working order, while others only pay attention when something finally stops working.
Many cars with problematic lights have passed through our car light service. Some of this work can be seen on the website. But this time we will talk about the Mitsubishi Grandis, which can be considered, without exaggeration, one of the cars with the worst optics that we have ever seen.

The condition of the Mitsubishi Grandis headlights at the time of contact
The appearance of the headlights immediately made the scale of the problem clear.

One of the headlights had a crack through the corner of the glass and was in much worse condition than the other. However, the external appearance is only part of the picture. To fully understand the situation, the light was projected onto a screen.
The result was even worse:
- the headlight with the crack did not work at all;
- the second headlight was so dim that its light output was comparable to the parking light of a working headlight.

Preparation of the owner and choice of repair method
The owner of the Mitsubishi Grandis was well aware of the condition of the headlights and the possible solutions to the problem. Therefore, he prepared the necessary components for repair in advance — 3.0-inch bi-xenon lenses.
Unfortunately, our service did not have new or donor lenses for Mitsubishi Grandis headlights, and the owner was also unable to provide them. Therefore, the issue of a through crack in the glass was resolved directly during the repair process.

Headlight disassembly and consequences of the crack
The headlights were removed from the car and unpacked. The consequences of long-term operation with a crack in the glass turned out to be critical. Constant exposure to dust, dirt and moisture led to the destruction of the halogen lamp reflector. In addition, almost all the contacts inside the headlight were oxidised. In fact, the through crack completely disabled the optics over a long period of time.

Technical solutions adopted
Based on the internal condition of the worse headlight, the following decisions were made:
- to paint the reflectors of both headlights in a dark matte colour;
- to install 3.0-inch bi-xenon lenses;
- to restore the existing glass by repairing the crack, polishing the exterior and then protecting it with film.
It was decided to glue the crack in the glass with a special adhesive compound, after which the glass was to be polished and protected with SunTek polyurethane film.

Connection and light adjustment
After the mechanical work, an auto electrician joined the project and integrated the xenon lamp ignition units into the car's standard wiring. After connecting and testing the system, the bi-xenon lens lights were adjusted using a professional device.

Final result: light before and after
After the adjustment was completed, the final light projection was performed on a screen. The difference between the initial state and the result after restoration was enormous.

The headlights, which previously hardly functioned at all, began to shine brightly, evenly and safely. Even in difficult conditions, we managed to restore the car’s full light and significantly improve night-time driving safety.
