When the DRL stops working
The owner of a Mazda CX-5 contacted our car lighting service in Kyiv with a problem with the front optics — the LED eyelash (DRL) in one of the headlights stopped working.
At the same time, the main headlight remained functional, the car continued to illuminate the road, and at first glance, the problem might have seemed insignificant. However, non-working DRLs:
- disrupt the overall appearance of the car;
- reduce the visibility of the car during the day;
- may be the cause of comments during technical inspections or checks.

Condition of the Mazda CX-5 headlight before repair
During the initial inspection, a complete failure of the LED eyelash in one headlight was recorded.

Why repair is more cost-effective than replacing the headlight
The failure of an LED eyelash is not a critical problem for a specialised car lighting service. In most cases, it can be solved by repair, which is much cheaper than:
- buying a new headlight from an official Mazda dealer;
- purchasing a used headlight from a dismantling facility with an unknown history of use.
That is why the decision was made to repair the standard optics.

Headlight removal and diagnostics
Service specialists disconnected the problematic headlight, removed it from the car and opened it along the factory seam for detailed diagnostics.

During the inspection, it was established that:
- the LED controller was working properly;
- the cause of the malfunction was the failure of the LEDs themselves.

LED eyelash repair
After accurately locating the malfunction, the service technicians replaced and re-soldered the burnt-out LEDs, restoring the DRL to full working order.

Headlight assembly and leak test
After the repair was completed, the headlight was assembled with a new sealed seam. After the sealant had crystallised, the specialists carried out a mandatory test to check for the absence of conditions conducive to the appearance of internal condensation. After ensuring that the optics were sealed and in good working order, the headlight was reinstalled on the car and connected to the standard wiring.

Result
The LED eyelash in the Mazda CX-5 headlight was completely restored without replacing the headlight. The optics are working normally again, and the car has gained:
- full-fledged daytime running lights;
- a complete appearance;
- budget savings compared to purchasing a new headlight.
