When headlight restoration becomes necessary
During the operation of a car, there comes a time when the headlight beam no longer meets safety requirements. Restoration work makes it possible to restore road lighting without purchasing new optics.
The owner of a Subaru Legacy contacted our car lighting service with a request to restore the light and return normal visibility at night. The car’s factory optics had halogen lenses, so to understand the current condition, specialists projected the light onto a screen and assessed the overall resource of the modules.

Condition of the headlights before work
The appearance of the optics was also far from ideal — the glass of both headlights needed to be restored to transparency. However, even if only grinding and polishing are performed, this does not always restore a high-quality light beam if the lenses and reflectors themselves are ‘tired’.

Diagnostics of halogen lenses and selection of a solution
To understand the real condition of the standard halogen lenses, the service specialists examined them using a device (diagnostic stroboscope). After the examination, it became clear that simply replacing the bulbs and polishing the glass would not restore the light — in this case, the factory lenses needed to be replaced with new bi-xenon lenses.

Work process: lens replacement, cleaning, sealing
The headlights were removed from the car body and unpacked at the factory seam. Then a standard set of works was performed:
- the used halogen lenses were removed;
- the internal optical elements were washed and cleaned;
- new 3.0-inch bi-xenon lenses were installed;
- the headlights were reassembled with a new sealed seam;
- after the sealant had crystallised, a test was carried out to check for any signs of fogging.
After that, the headlights were installed on the car and the glass was sanded and polished, and SunTek protective film was applied to preserve transparency and protect against sandblasting and UV rays.

Connecting and adjusting the light with a device
Once the optics were prepared externally, an auto electrician joined the work: he integrated the ignition units into the standard wiring. After the headlights ‘came to life’ with new light, it was time to set the parameters accurately. The lights were adjusted using a professional device for adjusting various types of automotive optics so that the beam was clear, correct and did not dazzle oncoming traffic.

Result: light projection before and after
After adjusting within the standards of DSTU and EEC, the specialists re-projected the light onto a screen. The difference between the factory halogen lenses and the new bi-xenon modules became obvious — the light became more uniform, brighter and more predictable on the road.
